Kailash and Lake Manasarovar Yatra by Helicopter – 11 Days

“Pilgrimage to the place of the wise is to find an escape from the flame of separateness.”

Kailash and Lake Mansarovar Yatra by Helicopter Tour are shorter than the overland journey and easier for elderly people. But still, you might face some problem of flight cancellation in monsoon time. We use both fixed-wing aircraft and charter helicopter on the trip. Holy Mount Kailash is the heaven in the tree realms of oriental existence. The famous holy mountain, Kailash, Lakes Mansarovar, and Raksas Tal are situated in the Arctic Tibetan plateau in western Tibet between the mountain ranges of Gurla Mandata (7694m) in the southeast, and Kunlung Mountain in the northwest.

Mount Kailash is remote, deep in Ngari, the westernmost part of the Tibetan plateau. The nearest largish town is Ali, which is the Chinese-built administrative center for Ngari Prefecture. But there are a number of nearby destinations of major interest which you can include on your trip: especially Lakes Mansarovar and Raksas Tal and the Guge ruins, but also Tirthapuri Gompa, Purang (near Nepal border) and Panggong Tso (Bangong He). You will fly from Kathmandu – Nepalgunj – Simikot by scheduled fixed-wing aircraft and from Simikot to Hilsa Nepal – China border you will be shuttled by charter helicopter. You have to walk 15 minutes to Chinese Immigration from Helipad cross Hilsa Bridge. After immigration check drive 1 hour to Purang and another 3 hours drive you will reach in Lake Mansarovar.

This tour is ideal for those devout pilgrims who are short on time or cannot undertake the rough road drive over the Tibetan plateau due to age or other health factors. They will fly on fixed-wing aircraft to Simikot, District headquarter of Humla from Kathmandu. A night for acclimatization is required before fly to the Tibetan border. Next day chopper meets the group at Simikot and ferries the client to Hilsa Nepal – China border. A short walk up to Chinese check post. The land cruisers drive over a week from Lhasa to pick up the group from Sher for Kailash Mansarovar Journey. As you can see the logistics have to be carefully planned and the tours booked at least 3 weeks in advance. There are eight Gompas around Mansarovar Lake according to Tibetan Buddhism. Every Gompa is constructed in the form of a Mandela. There are altogether eight Gompas around the lake. Four of them represent the continents and the other four their sub-continents. They are of different Buddhist sects. Among the monastery sites, ‘Thrugo’ on the southern shore, is considered the holiest site for bathing. Moreover, the water of Mansarovar plays a great role in the lives of farmers.
